Bottles

Before first use, boil all parts for 3 minutes to sanitize and cool to room temperature (at least 5 minutes). After each use, rinse disassembled bottle parts with cool water to remove milk residue, then wash in warm soapy water (not hot), rinse with cool water, and allow to air dry completely with no parts resting on top of each other. For best results and to avoid damage, clean with the soft-bristled Evenflo Bottle Brush. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Alternatively, the bottles are dishwasher safe (top rack only). Bottles may also be sanitized in the Evenflo Silicone Steam Sanitizing Bag.

Glass bottles require extra care to prevent breakage.

  • Pour the baby milk into a room temperature bottle and then place it in a bowl or container of warm water to gently warm the liquid and bottle at the same time.
  • Avoid using electric bottle warmers. Fast temperature changes can lead to cracks or breaking.
  • Avoid a rapid change of temperature. Placing the bottle directly in boiling water stresses the glass and may cause it to break. Placing a cold bottle in hot water, or a hot bottle in cold water can cause breaking.
  • Avoid using electric sterilizers. Extreme changes in temperature can stress the glass and may cause cracks and breaking.

Put measured water in the bottle first, then add measured powder and mix. If you find powdered formula doesn't quite mix and clogs the nipple, consider mixing the formula in a separate container before pouring it into the bottle.

If your baby is collapsing the nipple during a bottle feeding, it could be an indicator of multiple things, including improper assembly or that it is time to change to the next nipple flow. For detailed troubleshooting read Why a Bottle Nipple Collapses.

There are four common reasons a bottle might be leaky. Read Why is my baby’s bottle leaking?.

Some babies may use the same flow of nipple throughout bottle feeding, but most babies will increase in flow rate at least once. Learn the baby feeding behaviors that indicate When to Move to the Next Flow of Nipple.

The best nipple for your baby allows your baby to feed comfortably. Your baby should look relaxed while feeding, swallowing after every one or two sucks. Ideally the nipple will reach deeply into your baby's mouth with your baby's lips sealing around the base of the nipple.

The terms wide and standard refer to the width of the bottle opening. “Standard” is sometimes called “narrow” because the opening is more narrow than “wide” bottles. Read Standard vs. Wide Neck Bottles—What’s the Difference.

Evenflo Feeding bottle nipples are each marked with the flow rate. The marking will be different depending on which model of nipple you are using–Balance +, Classic, or Vented +. Read How to Identify Your Bottle Nipple Flow Rate.

How fast a bottle nipple drips when the bottle is held upside down is different than how fast the milk flows when a baby sucks on the nipple. Read My Baby’s Bottle Drips - Why Dripping and Flow Rate are Different.

Replace pacifiers every 1-2 months or anytime you notice wear. Remember to inspect your pacifier every time before offering it to your baby.

Before first use, boil pacifier for 3 minutes to sanitize and cool to room temperature (at least 5 minutes). After each use, or any time the pacifier falls onto the floor, wash it in warm soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Alternatively, pacifiers are dishwasher safe (top rack only). Pacifiers may also be sanitized in the Evenflo Silicone Steam Sanitizing Bag.

Researchers now say that moms of healthy, full-term newborns have a green light to introduce a pacifier whenever they want to. Pacifier use from birth, or after breastfeeding is established, does not affect the prevalence or duration of breastfeeding. Read When to Introduce a Pacifier.

Your baby’s preference ultimately decides which shape to use. But extra consideration is given for babies who breastfeed and for babies with teeth. Read Why the Shape of Your Baby’s Pacifier Matters.
